Melville Oval Facilities Redevelopment Project Update

Council’s $8.4m Melville Oval project continues to gain momentum as it enters the building phase in the hands of local Builder, Ultrabuild Construction Group Pty Ltd.

The redevelopment includes:

• two netball courts with spectator areas and competition lighting.

• new player and umpire facilities within the existing grandstand and extension.

• new netball player and umpire facilities and;

• multi-purpose community space within the new Pavilion.

The earthworks on site are now 90% complete and foundations for the extension of the grandstand building are due to be installed mid-April. The foundations will be closely followed by under slab works and preparation of the concrete floor slabs for the buildings. Once the foundations are in the ground, the community will see the new buildings take shape.

The structural steel for the grandstand and extension the building is currently being fabricated off site. Once completed, it will be transported to site and assembled.

An inspection of the heritage grandstand by the structural engineer has shown termite damage in the structure which was previously hidden from view. A design is currently being prepared for works to manage this and preserve the structure for future generations.

Mayor Councillor David Robertson said it was exciting to watch this major project continue.

“This project is part of council’s commitment to supporting and promoting healthy communities, and we’re excited to see major works about to kick off,” said Cr Roberston.

“The new facilities, including a full refurbishment under the grandstand, will result in a significant improvement for the reserve’s user groups and broader community.

“Additionally, this redevelopment will increase our regional profile, create sustainable assets and infrastructure, and provide attractive council-owned and managed community and open spaces,” Cr Robertson concluded.

Council staff continue to work with the Hamilton Kangaroos Football Netball Club and the Hamilton District Cricket Association.

The Melville Oval Facilities Redevelopment project has been made possible with funding from the Federal Government.
