Men charged, off-duty police officer assaulted, NSW

Two men have been charged following an alleged assault of an off-duty police officer at Pilliga, near Wee Waa in the state’s west.

Just after 10am yesterday (Tuesday 9 April 2019), an off-duty senior constable was at a café on Danger Street when he was approached by two men who allegedly commenced a verbal altercation with the officer.

The men allegedly assaulted the officer punching him several times to the face causing bruising and swelling.

The officer was assisted by witnesses before the two men left the café.

Officers from Wee Waa and Narrabri Police Station’s attended, and an investigation commenced.

Both men were arrested and taken to Wee Waa Police Station.

The 44-year-old man was charged with intimidation, assault police occasioning actual bodily harm and offensive language.

The 18-year-old man was charged with assault police occasioning actual bodily harm and offensive language.

Both men were released on conditional bail and are due to appear in Wee Waa Local Court 30 May 2019.
