Greater Shepparton City Council has noted the Merrigum Community Plan 2026-2030 at its August Council Meeting.
Developed by the Merrigum Community Group in partnership with residents, local organisations and Council, the Plan provides a clear roadmap for future advocacy, project delivery and community development, ensuring Merrigum remains a safe, connected and great place to live.
In developing the Plan, the Merrigum Community Group consulted with 61 residents through community meetings, business outreach and online engagement. The feedback gathered through this process helped identify the key priorities that matter most to the community.
The Plan is structured around five priority areas:
- Safety and emergency preparedness
- Infrastructure, business and connectivity
- Recreation and community wellbeing
- Beautification and environment
- Youth and education
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali said the Plan reflects the strong community spirit in Merrigum.
“This Plan provides a clear direction for the future of the town and has been shaped by the people who know Merrigum best, its residents,” he said.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in the consultation process and shared what they value about Merrigum and what they would like to see achieved over the coming years.”
Council, in partnership with the Merrigum Community Group, has delivered several successful projects and initiatives for the town since the group’s establishment in 2004, including the splash park, three-point basketball court, netball court upgrade, public toilets, recreation reserve lighting, playground shade structures and a range of community events.
Councillor Rod Schubert, Midland Ward representative, said the Plan marked an important milestone for the town and would help guide future priorities.
“I’m pleased to see the Plan finalised and formally noted by Council. It provides a strong foundation for the future and will help guide advocacy, partnerships and project opportunities that support the needs of the Merrigum community,” he said.
Council will continue to support the implementation of the Plan through advocacy, project planning, partnership development and funding advice. The Merrigum Community Group will work alongside community groups, government agencies and local businesses to deliver on the identified actions.
