Michael Megna nominated as new City of Canada Bay Mayor

Michael Megna was nominated by Councillors at an extraordinary meeting held on Wednesday December 20, with the nomination set to be taken to the NSW Governor for consideration.

“I am extremely proud to have been nominated by my fellow Councillors to the office of Mayor, pending consideration by the Governor,” Councillor Megna said.

“The City of Canada Bay is a beautiful and vibrant area with a wonderful sense of community. I look forward to continuing the great work of this Council as Mayor, with a strong focus on core services and planning for a bright future for our residents, local businesses, and community organisations.”

Michael Megna was first elected to Drummoyne Council in 1987 and served four years as Deputy Mayor and six years as Mayor. In 2004 he was elected to the City of Canada Bay Council after the merger of Drummoyne and Concord Councils in 2000 and is now serving his eighth term and has represented his community for over 30 years.

Councillor Megna has a strong interest in utilising our river transport system and was instrumental in securing new Rivercat services and wharves at Chiswick, Cabarita and Abbotsford.

He also secured funding for the construction of the Bay Run around Iron Cove. Being a lifelong, third-generation Canada Bay resident, Clr Megna is a strong community representative and is a passionate advocate for local residents and businesses.

Clr Megna is a Chartered Tax Advisor and has operated a business in Five Dock since 1974.

Deputy Mayor Joseph Cordaro will continue performing the functions of the Mayor until the appointment is ratified by the NSW Governor.
