The Mid-Term Review of the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030 (the strategy), has been released, highlighting progress made to improve road safety and identifying priorities for future action.
The review found that since the strategy’s release in 2021, investment by all levels of government has delivered improvements in road and vehicle safety, data collection and the adoption of the Safe System approach-a holistic approach that recognises that mistakes happen and seeks to ensure crashes do not result in death or serious injury when they do occur.
While progress has been made, the review highlights further ongoing work is needed to respond to the rising national road toll and deliver practical actions to help Australians get home safely.
The review’s findings will help inform the next phase of national road safety efforts, including the development of the next National Road Safety Action Plan, expected to be released later this year.
