Milestone for Leonora aged accommodation project

  • Leonora’s Ageing in Place project hits a major milestone, with construction tender awarded
  • McGowan Government contributing $3.5 million through the Regional Aged Accommodation Program
  • Leonora’s independent living village is a step closer to construction with Majstrovich Building Company awarded the tender for construction works.

The McGowan Government has allocated $3.5 million towards the projects as part of the State’s Regional Aged Accommodation Program, with the Shire of Leonora contributing $1 million.

The project will deliver eight modern independent living units, as well as a community hall, communal gardens and barbecues.

Majstrovich Building Company has strong ties with Leonora, having completed the Northern Goldfields Regional Offices and Administration Centre (renamed the JG Epis Centre) in 2017.

With a track record of engaging with local contractors on previous projects, Majstrovich Building Company will again maximise local content in the Ageing in Place project to ensure that economic benefits are retained within the Goldfields region.

The McGowan Government’s Regional Aged Accommodation Program has delivered independent living projects across regional Western Australia.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“This project will go a long way in assisting with the demand for independent living units in the Northern Goldfields.

“It will create a seniors hub where both residents and community members can actively participate in village life.

“We look forward to work getting underway in Leonora in coming months.”

As stated by Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

“The McGowan Government recognises the importance of quality, independent living accommodation in our regional towns.

“These units will help residents to live independently in the community while accessing local and visiting support services.

“This Government is delivering in the Goldfields region and this is another great example of how we are working with local government to deliver for our community.”
