Mill Park Leisure Centre redevelopment in full swing

Work is now in full swing on the $25 million revamp of Mill Park Leisure.

The multi-million-dollar major transformation began in July 2018.

Mayor Lawrie Cox said in the coming months residents would start seeing the outside of the new building take shape.

“It’s been exciting to watch the redevelopment of the centre start to come together,” he said.

“Internal concrete slabs and steel frames for the gym expansion are complete and the new warm water pool and the concrete works for the 25-metre pool are complete. The new learn to swim and leisure pools have been excavated and ready for concreting.

“Roof works to the new extension are almost finished and over the next couple of months we’ll start to see more external walls going up.

“This is an important community recreational facility and this investment will completely transform Mill Park Leisure into a modern aquatic and fitness hub.

“We are confident the result will be well-worth the wait.”

The upgrade will include three new pools; one for leisure with waterplay areas, another for swimming lessons and a warm water pool with ramp access. A new larger spa and sauna will also be installed, and the 25-metre pool will have ramp access.

Fitness buffs will enjoy an expanded gym and fitness program area with improved weight training and cardio areas, bigger and better group fitness rooms and outdoor fitness areas.

Accessibility throughout the entire facility has been a priority including ramps to all pools, a pool pod, a hoist and two Changing Places accessible toilets and other accessible toilets.

The expansion of the building will also provide a new front foyer, reception, retail area and café, family play and barbecue areas, together with revamped accessible car parking and minibus drop off point.

The centre is due to be complete next year.
