Minister appoints new commissioner for City of Perth

  • Local government and planning specialist Len Kosova appointed City of Perth Commissioner
  • Andrew Hammond to become new Chair Commissioner filling the vacancy created by the departure of Eric Lumsden
  • Commissioners to remain in place while the City of Perth Panel of Inquiry continues
  • Local Government Minister David Templeman today announced the appointment of Len Kosova as a new City of Perth Commissioner, to join fellow Commissioner, Mr Andrew Hammond and Deputy Commissioner, Ms Gaye McMath.

    Mr Kosova is an urban and regional town planner and former CEO of the City of Vincent who has extensive experience at senior levels of local government, having worked at the Cities of Wanneroo and Gosnells, and the Shire of Mundaring.

    City of Perth Commissioner Chair Eric Lumsden recently announced he was stepping down from the role. Andrew Hammond, who has been a Commissioner since the Council was suspended last year, will become the new Chair.

    The Commissioners will remain in place at the City of Perth for the duration of the Panel of Inquiry.

    The City of Perth Council continue to be suspended until the Inquiry Panel report has been considered and appropriate orders have been made to either reinstate or dismiss the Council.

    As stated by Local Government Minister David Templeman:

    “I welcome the appointment of Mr Kosova as Commissioner. His extensive skills and experience will help return stability and vibrancy to the City of Perth.

    “I’d also like to thank Eric Lumsden for his enormous contributions over the past year and a half as Chair Commissioner.

    “On a wider note, I’d like to acknowledge his outstanding service over many years in the areas of local government, planning and senior levels of the State government public sector.

    “He has had a distinguished career and is held in the highest esteem by his peers and has helped shape Perth and Western Australia in many positive ways.”
