Drivers in Sydney’s booming North West are a step closer to safer, faster and more reliable journeys, with the Minns Labor Government investing an additional $250 million in the 2026-27 NSW Budget to help deliver the priority eastern section of the Bandon Road Upgrade.
For too long, rapid population growth has outpaced infrastructure in Sydney’s North West. The former Government’s failure to properly plan for this growth has left residents caught in congestion, impacted by flood disruptions and facing longer trips to work, school and essential services.
This additional $250 million investment builds on $75 million for planning and early works promised by Labor before the last election. With that work well in progress, the Minns Labor Government is powering ahead to get the next stage of this significant upgrade underway.
The first stage of the upgrade from Windsor Road to Vineyard Station is a 2.5 kilometre section of new and upgraded road including four lanes between Windsor Road and west of the Richmond railway line.
The Liberals and Nationals first announced the proposed Bandon Road alignment a decade ago, but as with many of their empty promises, they failed to properly fund it. It was not until the election of the Minns Labor Government that funding was allocated for the design and early work.
That work is underway, including construction of a new car park with more than 70 spaces at Vineyard Station, upgraded bus stops, better pedestrian access, lighting and safety improvements.
Once complete, the eastern section of the Bandon Road upgrade will reduce congestion, improve safety, provide more resilient flood access and improve connections for families in Riverstone, Box Hill, Marsden Park and Vineyard. Work will commence at the end of the year and will include:
- A new four lane divided road with the option for future widening to six lanes
- New connector roads including a new southern connection road and realigned Wallace Road, part of the flood evacuation route
- Upgraded intersections including at Windsor Road and Chapman Road
- Removal of the existing dangerous and congested level crossing at Vineyard Station
- Better access to public transport with improved connections to Vineyard Station, including a new pedestrian bridge
- A new off-road shared path for pedestrians and cyclists
- Improved flood access with upgrades to flood evacuation routes and improved drainage
With more than 300,000 additional people expected to call North West Sydney home in the coming years, the Bandon Road upgrade is being designed to meet future demand. Planning is progressing to deliver the full 6.5km Bandon Road Corridor which will ultimately link Windsor Road to Richmond Road through the Marsden Park North, Riverstone West, Riverstone and Vineyard precincts.
Once complete, the corridor will provide direct access to Richmond Road, improve connections to Marsden Park, create an additional east-west link, and offer an alternative route that reduces the need to travel through Riverstone town centre.
This investment in Bandon Road is part of the more than $7.4 billion the Minns Labor Government has funded for Western Sydney roads since 2023, helping keep our fastest growing communities connected so they can access the services they need.
