Mitchell Freeway Incidents Arrests

Warwick Police have charged two boys in relation to a series of incidents involving objects being thrown at vehicles travelling on Mitchell Freeway in Kingsley yesterday, Thursday 12 January 2023.
In total, 13 people reported their vehicles were damaged while they were driving on Mitchell Freeway, with most reporting that rocks or unknown objects had struck their vehicle.
Based on the approximate times provided by the drivers involved, it appears six of the vehicles were damaged between 4:45pm and 5:05pm, and the remaining seven vehicles were damaged between 11:45pm and 12:05am.
In most cases vehicles were being driven south on the freeway, and while not all drivers could provide an exact location it is believed all the vehicles were damaged as they passed under the Hepburn Avenue overpass in Kingsley.
Several police vehicles were deployed in response to the incidents, and with the support of the Public Transport Authority two boys were identified and arrested nearby after the second series of incidents.
A 15-year-old boy from Kingsley and a 12-year-old boy from Quinns Rocks have each been charged by Warwick Police with 13 counts of ‘Acts or omissions causing bodily harm or danger to any person’. They are due to appear in Joondalup Children’s Court on Tuesday 31 January 2023.
Anyone who believes their vehicle may have been damaged while being driven in the same area yesterday, and who haven’t reported the damage to police, are asked to make a report by calling 131 444 or by attending a local police station.
