The Monash Arts and Culture Strategy 2025 will deliver a new whole of City vision to reignite resilient and thriving creative industries.

Prior to COVID-19, Victoria’s cultural and creative sector contributed $31 billion, or 8 per cent, to the Victorian economy, and in 2017 cultural tourism brought $2 billion to the state.

The strategy will rebuild capacity across creative and cultural industries and facilitate growth and recovery opportunities for creative practitioners and businesses.

To boost growth and recovery, Monash community creative spaces and places will host a comprehensive festival and events program to celebrate and share performing arts and live music.

Monash Community Grants will also fund new creative and cultural initiatives to support local artists and performers to inspire, enrich, and connect with linguistically and culturally diverse communities.

Mayor, Cr Stuart James said Monash proudly celebrates and champions its arts, culture, and heritage.

“Our strong and thriving creative and cultural industries make a significant contribution to our community identity and connection to place,” Cr James said.

“We will reinvigorate and enrich community life by supporting our community to return to events, festivals, libraries, cultural venues, and open spaces.

“Our arts and culture agenda will deliver significant public benefits such as social connection, expression of self, healthy childhood development and healthy ageing.

“Our vision will capitalise on our unique position, cultural assets, and future growth opportunities to achieve sustainable outcomes for arts and culture implementation.”

The Monash Arts and Culture Strategy 2025 aligns to the Victorian Government timeframes for Creative State 2025, a four-year creative strategy designed to grow jobs and skills.

Council is seeking feedback from the Monash community on the strategy until 16 September at shape.monash.vic.gov.au/arts-and-culture-monash
