Monash COP27 Expert: Criteria developed to support buildings sector climate targets

Monash University

Monash University researchers, in collaboration with the UNEP-hosted Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction, and the Global Buildings Performance Network, have found international targets to halve building sector emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero-emissions by 2050 are difficult to achieve due to their lack of specification and measurability.

The team, along with the Egyptian government and private sector panellists, will present key criteria and examples to advance building sector actions and commitments in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the broader commitment ecosystem at COP27 this Friday, 11 November .

A Monash University expert is available to discuss these recommendations and how governments can best work with the buildings sector stakeholders to scale up climate change mitigation and adaptation targets.
