Moncrieff residents join free fitness

The ACT Government and Live Life Get Active have partnered to bring a free fitness program to the residents of Moncrieff, the first Mingle suburb to incorporate a fitness camp into their community development program.

In Australia, there are more than 14 million people that are either overweight or obese which impacts on health issues such as diabetes, heart disease and depression. Live Life Get Active’s vision is to build fitter, healthier and happier communities and the launch of this free fitness program in Moncrieff is a key example.

Community activation and resilience is an essential part of the work being carried out by the Suburban Land Agency’s Mingle Community Development Program. Mingle aims to implement community activities which are ultimately owned and championed by local residents.

Moncrieff’s new fitness program, which launched today, will make it easier for Canberrans to be healthy and active. I am pleased to see the launch of this community program that will encourage social inclusion and bring neighbours together in their own suburb’s recreation park.

The Live Life Get Active program will include yoga, cross training and boxing with opportunities for everyone to take part. The classes will run each week as part of a year long program.

I encourage the Moncrieff community to get involved and build connections through active living by joining this free program. Register now at www.livelifegetactive.com/sign-up/register-now
