Monster garage sale raises more than $10000

Armidale Regional Council

A recent monster garage sale has raised $11,000 for the charity Armidale Youth Futures and saved 97 cubic metres of goods going to landfill.

Around 60 cubic metres of donated goods were sold at the event and the remaining saleable items were distributed to charities and community groups including the Animal Welfare League, Rotary Book Shed, the Tip Shop and local church groups.

Money raised from the event will be used by Armidale Youth Futures in providing teaching Christian Special Religious Education in all Armidale Primary Schools and Armidale Secondary College.

“The Monster Spring Garage Sale raised $11,000 and was an excellent community event assisted by some 40 helpers from all Armidale’s churches and attended by an estimated 200 – 300 customers,” said Graham Truscot, chairman, Armidale Youth Futures.

“We look forward to working with the Council in future to improve the lives of our children and to assist environmentally through minimisation of goods to landfill.”

DID YOU KNOW:

  • Every item you buy second-hand diverts on average, 13.9kg of CO2 emissions or equivalent to what seven trees can absorb in one day.
  • Reusing items has a great environmental benefit and apart from keeping waste out of our precious landfill, means less resources are used to make new items and consumers save on the cost of purchasing new items.
