More AFL blockbusters for Tasmania in 2022

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delighted with the release of the 2022 AFL fixture, with our State set to host eight games including several blockbuster matches.

In a massive coup for footy fans, Hawthorn will take on Sydney at UTAS Stadium on Anzac Day at 12.30pm in what’s sure to be a sold out clash between two AFL heavyweights.

The Hawks will also play the Brisbane Lions at UTAS Stadium on Friday May 20 , the Gold Coast Suns on Friday August 5 and the Western Bulldogs on August 19.

In great news for North Melbourne fans, the Kangaroos will play Geelong at Blundstone Arena on Sunday April 24 at 1.10pm, Port Adelaide on Saturday May 14 at 2.10pm and the Adelaide Crows on Friday June 24.

Tasmania’s two adopted teams North Melbourne and Hawthorn will play each other at Blundstone Arena on Friday July 22.

Importantly, five of the top eight teams from the 2021 season will be playing in Tasmania in 2022.

2021 was a monumental year for AFL in Tasmania, with a record 14 games over the course of the season, including two historic elimination finals and several sell-out matches which proved to AFL house that if you give us the big matches Tasmanians will turn out in force.
