Construction has begun on a new $1.2 million early earning facility at East Devonport Primary School.
Upon completion, the facility will deliver more early learning opportunities for some of our youngest learners through Long Day Care and Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) services, giving local families greater flexibility and access to high-quality care close to home.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said high-quality early learning gives children the best possible start in life.
“Our Government continues to deliver for our youngest learners, building solid foundations as they begin their education journey,” Minister Palmer said.
“This new facility, co-located at the primary school, is an absolute gamechanger for the region, building on the fantastic work being delivered through our Early Learning for Three Year Olds (EL3) initiative.
“When fully operational, it will have capacity for 28 learners per day, giving families on the North West more opportunity to have their young ones engaged in early learning.
“The new facility will also provide local families with access to much needed OSHC services, which we know makes a huge difference for working families.
“Through our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we’re committed to giving our children the best possible start in life and learning.”
Services at the new early learning facility will be delivered by Uniting Vic/Tas Early Learning, in partnership with East Devonport Primary School and the East Devonport Child and Family Learning Centre.
Construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2026.
Construction is also underway for capital upgrades at Zeehan Primary School, with the EL3 trial to get underway in early 2027.
