More Greening and Cooling with another State Square Project Underway

NT Government

Work is underway for the revitalisation of the 90 Bay carpark site, as part of the State and Civic Square Masterplan.

The heat producing carpark will now be turned into cool, green, community space for festivals and events to occur.

Local business and local jobs are supported through the 90 Bay Car Park revitalisation, with Territory organisation PTM Group completing these works.

Construction on the car park revitalisation is on-track to be complete later this year.

Pathways will connect Civic and State Square and the Native Landscape Garden atop the Underground Car Park to the Esplanade, with shade created by tree canopies where possible and all elements, including planting, lighting, furniture and finishes, to be integrated seamlessly into the landscaping design.

The car park redevelopment and revitalisation will include:

the removal of the existing car park, reorientating Parliament Lane to enter and exit from the Esplanade, space for festivals and events, andlandscaping that aesthetically complements the Native Landscape Garden atop the State Square Underground Carpark.

Further cooling and greening projects in the Darwin CBD contribute to Governments wider heat mitigation works which also contributes to our climate change target.

The 10-year City Deal plan was signed between the Australian Government, Northern Territory Government and City of Darwin, with the Northern Territory Government committing to the delivery of infrastructure to facilitate increased visitation to the CBD by both residents and visitors to the NT.
