More home test kits available at local libraries

More community members will be able to test their homes for water leaks and high-energy use, following the success of Energy and Water Saver Kits at local libraries.

In January 2022, Yarra Ranges, Knox and Maroondah Councils made three kits available to community through Eastern Regional Libraries, where community members can test their homes for flaws and leaks.

Now, due to the popularity of the kits, there are an additional three kits available to loan from the library.

Yarra Ranges Council has also secured a further two kits specific for the storm affected residents, in the Dandenong Ranges. These are available directly from the Council.

Yarra Ranges Deputy Mayor, Johanna Skelton, said the kits were well-used by community, with a wait-list of over 100 people for the kits.

“As a direct result of this community enthusiasm, the Councils have been able to secure an extra three kits, helping to speed up the waitlist and give community more opportunities to make their homes comfortable,” Cr Skelton said.

“These kits are easy to use and find high energy use and leaks that contribute to high energy and water bills, giving community members the info they need to make changes.

“The ideal result is that issues get fixed up and financial and environmental costs start to lower.

“Community members have clearly embraced this opportunity and I am grateful that Council could be responsive to the demand.”

“These extra kits will help more people and I love seeing the library used to share even more useful resources for the community.”
