More Homes In Barkly

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government has reached 90% completion of housing works in Elliott, with 13 new and refurbished homes in the community.

It was a busy week for many families moving back to their homes in Elliott town camps, with 8 homes delivered and two refurbished homes handed back to the families this week. Three more homes will be ready for families in the coming weeks.

The Murphy family and their four children received back their improved home in Elliott North Town Camp. Their home has undergone electrical, plumbing and carpentry works.

In Elliott, a total of 39 houses have been refurbished since 2016, with 6 homes left to be upgraded.

Across Elliott town camps the population is about 250 living across 53 homes.

As part of the Northern Territory Labor Government commitment in the Town Camps Reform Framework 2021-2024, all houses across North and South Elliott town camps are set to be upgraded. Huge progress has been made.

Aboriginal Enterprises Australia has been delivering repairs in Elliott North and South town camps, with 8 Aboriginal workers, including 3 locals, completing the works.

The reform means that the Elliott town camp residents will transition to public housing once upgrades are complete to a Residential Tenancy Act standard, with a longer-term commitment to transition the arrangement to an Aboriginal controlled registered community housing provider.

The Territory Labor government has invested $6.6 million to construct eight new homes in Elliott town camps, including one replacement home, delivered so far.
