More national road safety action grants now open

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Applications are now open for three more focus areas of the Australian Government’s National Road Safety Action Grants Program.

The program, announced in the 2023-24 Budget, provides vital funding to non-infrastructure road safety projects and programs across Australia.

The Australian Government has committed $43.6 million to this program over four years from 2022-23 to 2025-26.

Three funding streams – First Nations Road Safety, Technology and Innovation, and Research and Data are now open.

The First Nations Road Safety funding stream aims to fund projects that will deliver local solutions for First Nations communities, and also support culturally relevant road safety messaging.

The Technology and Innovation funding stream aims to examine and conduct research into the effectiveness of new road and vehicle safety technologies, as well as projects which focus on new road safety technologies, innovations or initiatives.

The Research and Data funding stream aims to develop or extend national road safety research and data capabilities, collate data to identify emerging trends in crash causation, as well as research into crash prevention methods to reduce fatalities and serious injuries.

The program is open to a range of organisations including not-for-profit and research, as well as local, state and territory governments. Applications are open until 31 March.
