More Specialist Disability Accommodation for Territorians

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is empowering and supporting some of our most vulnerable Territorians with disability to live a more independent and fulfilled life.

Today a new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) housing development in Wanguri was opened by Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Hon Bill Shorten MP.

The Northern Territory Government is proud to have played a part in bringing this development to fruition by providing the land as one of four blocks granted for SDA to Carpentaria Disability Services and Life Without Barriers.

These land blocks, with a combined value of more than $1 million, were transferred for the construction of four SDA homes to accommodate up to 12 people living with disability and support staff.

The houses are innovative, fully accessible and will create a home environment where residents can grow their independence while still receiving support, thanks to Greenspace Homes.

This type of accommodation option can be life-changing for people with complex functional disability and its availability will be expanded with a new land grant to Carpentaria by the Northern Territory Government also announced today.

Carpentaria was the successful tenderer for two additional land grants in Jingili and Rapid Creek, with construction to commence later in 2023 and early 2024.
