More support for community broadcasting

The Program, which has been delivered for the Australian Government by the Community Broadcasting Foundation since 1984, will deliver over $20 million per year to support community broadcasting.

In 2023-24, $9.57 million is set to be delivered under Round 1 for 235 projects around Australia as diverse as Mindful Parenting, a 10-part bilingual radio program providing practical and relevant advice to migrant parents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds at 2MFM in Sydney, and studio and main control room equipment replacement to support reliable emergency communication at 2BAY FM in Byron Bay FM, helping to strengthen a key area of Australia’s media industry.

Community broadcasting services operate at the heart of local communities, with staff and volunteers working to deliver local news, tell local stories, and provide a platform for diverse voices and Australian music. They are essential to a well-informed and inclusive society.

The announcement of successful grant recipients follows a competitive application process.

The purpose of the Community Broadcasting Program is to support a diverse, innovative and resilient community broadcasting sector. The Government is keen to ensure the community broadcasting sector remains sustainable and is undertaking a review, in consultation with the sector, to ensure a sustainable funding basis for the future.
