More support for wallaby relocation

The Agile Wallaby Project’s plan to relocate a further 400 wallabies from the Trinity Beach Sporting Precinct has been bolstered by a $40,000 Council grant.

Funding has been allocated through savings from the highly successful Flying Fox Management Program.

The group has already relocated 400 wallabies from the sporting precinct in the past years and has State Government approval to relocate a further 400 animals.

As part of the relocation program, the group aims to sterilise the remaining 200-300 wallabies in the area, which will dramatically reduce the population to a more sustainable level.

Council has already installed over $170,000 in perimeter fencing and gates in an effort to stop the wallabies getting onto the precinct’s playing surfaces to reduce significant defecation and damage caused by the animals.
