During the first three years since the MidCoast Open Space and Recreation Strategy adoption, 73 actions within the plan have been either completed or partially completed.
The total cost of the completed actions is $11,334,750. External funding contributed $9,130,085 and $2,204,665 was funded by Council.
The work has delivered improvements people can enjoy across the region. Some of the projects include the Black Head Skatepark, Forster Pelican Boardwalk extension, Tea Gardens Boat Ramp upgrade, Gloucester Billabong Park Suspension Bridge, playground renewals and other recreation upgrades.
“We are proud to deliver projects that the community have told us they need and can enjoy for years to come,” said Council’s Executive Manager Public Spaces, Mr Liam Bulley.
Council has also worked with community groups to improve local facilities. These projects include sports courts improvement and new fenced off-leash dog areas.
Planning has also been undertaken for the future of key recreation areas. Master plans have been completed for Taree Recreation Grounds, Old Bar Park and Wingham Central Park.
The Open Space and Recreation Strategy guides the future of parks, sports fields, playgrounds, dog parks, foreshores, walkways, cycleways and other public spaces across the MidCoast until 2035.
The strategy is supported by further individual plans covering playspaces, skateparks, outdoor sports courts, sports lighting, boating infrastructure, public toilets in parks, walking and cycling, trails and aquatic facilities.
A further 22 actions have been completed from these plans. The value of these additional actions is $2,155,005.60 with $1,290,457 being funded externally and $864,548.60 was funded by Council.
