Young people and their families are invited to discover new opportunities, try new activities and connect with local clubs and organisations at the free Connecting Youth EXPO’26.
The event will be held on Saturday 5 September 2026 from 10am to 2pm at the Pavilion, Shepparton Showgrounds, with more than 35 local clubs, community organisations, youth services and volunteer groups taking part. The day will also feature free entry, live entertainment, food trucks, hands-on activities and a chill zone for young people to relax and take a break.
With social connection, wellbeing and community participation continuing to be important priorities for young people, the expo has been designed to make it easier for young people and families to discover local opportunities in one location.
Designed for young people aged 12 to 25, the expo is open to everyone and provides the chance to explore what is available across the region through interactive activities, live demonstrations and hands-on experiences.
Visitors can test their skills with football handball challenges, rowing ergometers and drone simulators, try beginner martial arts activities, speak with local clubs and community groups, explore volunteering opportunities and discover support services available for young people.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the expo was all about helping young people find opportunities that matched their interests.
“Greater Shepparton is home to an incredible range of clubs, organisations and services that support young people to stay active, build confidence and connect with others,” he said.
“The Connecting Youth Expo brings these opportunities together in one place, making it easy for young people and their families to explore what is available and perhaps discover a new hobby, sport, passion or pathway.”
Shepparton Education Plan Senior Project Officer, Kerri Symes, said the Expo is designed to make it easy for young people and families to get involved.
“We know weekends can be busy with sport, work and other commitments, so the 10am to 2pm format gives people the flexibility to drop in when it suits them,” she said.
“The Expo is very interactive, giving young people the chance to meet local clubs and organisations, ask questions and have a go at the activities on offer. There will also be food trucks, live entertainment and a chill zone to enjoy throughout the day.”
Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project Executive Officer, Amy Robinson, said the event aims to encourage young people to step outside their comfort zone and have a go.
“There will be something for everyone on the day, whether you’re interested in sport, creativity, volunteering, leadership or simply meeting new people,” she said.
“We invite young people to connect with as many stalls as they can, discover what’s possible and explore the many opportunities available across the region.”
Valley Sport Executive Officer, Megan Carr, said the expo would give young people a simple way to explore different activities and find something that interests them.
“The Expo removes some of the barriers that can make it difficult for young people to try something new. They can meet local clubs, ask questions and take part in activities in a relaxed and welcoming environment,” she said.
“It is a great opportunity for young people to see what is available locally and discover ways to be active, involved and connected.”
“We encourage young people and their families to come along, have a go and speak directly with the organisations offering opportunities across Greater Shepparton.”
The Connecting Youth EXPO’26 is free to attend and no bookings are required.
The event is supported by Greater Shepparton City Council, the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project, the Shepparton Education Plan, the Victorian Government’s Amplify program, Goulburn Valley Water and Valley Sport.
