More Than Thousand New Homes Coming To Oakleigh

VIC Premier

The Carroll Labor Government is one step closer to delivering more than 1,000 homes in Oakleigh.

Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny has approved planning scheme changes to establish Talbot Village at the former Talbot Quarry and Landfill site in Oakleigh South.

The changes will help to unlock more than 1,100 homes, including more affordable housing.

The area will feature new walking and cycling paths, tree-lined streets and open space for the community to enjoy, as well as a village centre with shops, cafes and local services.

It will include vital community infrastructure such as an indoor community facility and childcare centre and kinder.

Upgrades to intersections will also be delivered to keep traffic moving.

Talbot Village will be delivered in stages, ensuring homes are built as infrastructure is built.

Future residents will benefit from a mix of housing options, including townhouses and apartments, close to jobs, public transport, and local services.

The site has been the subject of extensive remediation.

Redevelopment has been held up by the local council for over a decade – Labor is stepping in to end the status quo and get more homes built.

While this approval establishes the framework for future development, further planning permits and approvals will be required before construction can proceed.

Only Labor is giving Victorians more choice about where they live and work.

Jess Wilson’s Liberal-One Nation Coalition will rip up our plann

ing reforms – blocking young Victorians from entering the housing market.

As stated by Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny

“We are turning a site that has sat unused for more than 30 years into a new neighbourhood with more homes, open space and community facilities.”

“We are ending the status quo that is keeping young people from entering the housing market.”

As stated by Member for Oakleigh Steve Dimopoulos

“Labor is building new homes for working families in Oakleigh with good schools, public transport and open spaces for our growing community.”
