More Worker Accommodation In Mallee

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering more accommodation for critical workers across the Mallee region.

Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green today visited Robinvale to view the progress of the Swan Hill Worker Housing project, which is on track for completion in July. It has been backed by $500,000 from the Labor Government’s Building Works package.

The project will deliver four houses, which will boost accommodation options for workers in the region from vital industries like healthcare and education.

Groundwork for the project is now complete and floor slabs have recently been poured with framing now underway.

The homes are being built at Ronald Street in Robinvale with the Swan Hill Rural City Council planning to further develop the site.

The Government is also supporting seasonal workers through the Ramsay Court Worker Accommodation facility in Mildura which opened in November last year.

The facility was supported by $800,000 from the Building Works package to provide space for up to 56 seasonal workers through 25 rooms. It also includes a communal kitchen, communal laundry and outdoor area.

The $2.7 billion Building Works program is designed to provide immediate and lasting benefit to communities across the state, with more than half the projects in rural and regional Victoria. For more information visit rdv.vic.gov.au/resources/coronavirus/building-works.

As stated by Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green

“Building more housing in regional communities creates local jobs and ensures more critical workers have a home close to where they work.”

“Investing in these projects delivers big benefits to regional communities, critical workers and local businesses.”

As stated by Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp

“We know how important it is for regions to have enough housing supply for seasonal workers – and that’s why we built the Ramsay Court Worker Accommodation facility in Mildura.”

“This region has so much growth potential, which is why I am so happy to see much needed accommodation solutions making significant progress right here in the Mallee.”
