More youths charged following Caroline Springs affray and serious assault

Wayward Taskforce detectives have arrested and charged a further seven youths following an affray and serious assault in Caroline Springs last weekend.

The arrests come after police were called to reports of a group of about 20 people fighting at Caroline Springs Boulevard just after midnight on Sunday (10 February).

Three people were injured during the incident, with two men aged 18 and 29 taken to hospital with non-life threatening stab wounds.

Warrants were executed across the western suburbs this morning following a thorough investigation into the incident. Seven teens were arrested; a number of items including drugs were also seized.

More than 60 charges have been laid against the male teens including:

• A 16-year-old from Melton charged with intentionally cause injury in circumstances of gross violence, recklessly cause injury in circumstances of gross violence, multiple counts of intentionally cause injury, multiple counts of assault by kicking, multiple counts of assault in company, multiple counts of unlawful assault, affray, intentionally cause serious injury, recklessly cause serious injury, recklessly cause injury, and assault with weapon.

• A 16-year-old from Taylors Hill charged with intentionally cause injury in circumstances of gross violence, recklessly cause injury in circumstances of gross violence, multiple counts of intentionally cause injury, multiple counts of assault by kicking, multiple counts of assault in company, multiple counts of unlawful assault, affray, intentionally cause serious injury, recklessly cause serious injury, recklessly cause injury, and assault with weapon.

• A 13-year-old from Tarneit charged with intentionally cause injury in circumstances of gross violence, recklessly cause injury in circumstances of gross violence, multiple counts of intentionally cause injury, multiple counts of assault by kicking, multiple counts of assault in company, multiple counts of unlawful assault, multiple counts of affray, intentionally cause serious injury, recklessly cause serious injury, recklessly cause injury, and assault with weapon.

• A 16-year-old from Sunbury charged with affray, intentionally cause injury, assault by kicking, assault in company, and unlawful assault.

• A 15-year-old from Melton South charged with robbery, affray, intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, and handle stolen goods.

• A 14-year-old from Taylors Hill charged with affray, intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, assault in company, and unlawful assault.

• A 15-year-old from Hillside is expected to be charged on summons.

The group will be presented at a court this afternoon.

This morning’s arrests are in addition to two males who were arrested by the police at the scene on Sunday morning.

A 17-year-old Melton teen was on Sunday charged with affray. He was bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

The 16-year-old was released pending further enquiries.

The investigation is ongoing.
