  • Premier Mark McGowan and Morley MLA Amber-Jade Sanderson visited Morley Senior High School today to officially open its new and upgraded facilities.

Morley Senior High School received $1.5 million worth of upgrades to build a new, fully-enclosed facility, which now provides multi-purpose playing courts and an assembly area that students can use all-year-round.

The school upgrades also included the refurbishment to the study area for physical education staff, which enables staff to better collaborate and prepare for classes in a more contemporary environment.

More than $80,000 of general maintenance has also been completed as part of the McGowan Government’s job-creating school maintenance blitz for all 789 WA public schools.

As part of the upgrades, the school will also receive $550,000 to improve its design and technology facilities. The project is in early stages and is expected to be completed as early as June next year.

Every Western Australian public school is benefiting from the $200 million maintenance blitz, which is currently underway, creating 3,150 jobs across the State, including 1,260 in regional WA.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“It’s investments into local schools like these that will ensure facilities remain at the highest standard for our kids.

“Every public school across the State is benefitting from one of the biggest ever investments in WA schools.

“Our strong financial management has enabled us to invest in job-creating initiatives like this which will create thousands of WA jobs in important trades like electricians, painters and carpenters.”

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“Staff and students need vibrant, practical spaces in which to teach, learn and play and these upgrades will provide great benefits for the Morley Senior High School community.

“It is also pleasing that the school’s design and technology facilities will be upgraded and should be completed by mid-next year.

“The McGowan Government’s $200 million maintenance blitz means long-standing structural issues in every school in Western Australia are being addressed.”

As stated by Morley MLA Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“Prior to this investment, there was nowhere for the school to have whole of school assemblies.

“Morley Senior High School now has a purpose built space for students to play sports and hold assemblies that can be used all year round.

“We have fantastic public schools in our local area and I am proud to be part of a Government that invests in facilities for our students and teachers.”
