Morley student to fly high with aviation award win

  • Morley Senior High School student Chloe Stead awarded Minister’s Aviation Scholarship
  • Chloe is a step closer to achieving her dream of becoming a pilot
  • The Year 12 student is the second female to win the award since its inception in 1993

Education Minister Tony Buti today presented the Minister’s Aviation Scholarship to Morley Senior High School student Chloe Stead.

The Minister’s Aviation Scholarship is an annual $5,000 award presented to the most deserving aviation student in a Western Australian public school to jumpstart their pilot career.

Students who are committed to their aviation studies and show a demonstrated interest in a career in the industry can be nominated for the scholarship.

Chloe, only the second female to win the award since it was first presented in 1993, joined the aviation program at Morley Senior High School in Year 7.

She quickly realised her passion for aviation and decided to pursue a career as a pilot. Chloe has been the top student in her aviation class since Year 7.

On top of her academic success, Chloe hit a significant milestone when she completed her first solo flight in 2022.

Morley Senior High School is one of four WA public schools to offer an aviation specialist program.

The course covers theoretical topics such as meteorology, the physics of flight, model building, and robotics, and includes flying lessons or navigation flights from Jandakot Airport.

Chloe is the seventh Morley Senior High School student to win the award.

As stated by Education Minister Tony Buti:

“The Minister’s Aviation Scholarship was first awarded 30 years ago and in that time many recipients have gone on to achieve success in the aviation industry.

“Chloe is an impressive young student whose determination to excel in this field is truly remarkable.

“Having already completed her first solo flight last year, I have no doubt Chloe will go far in her aviation career and make an outstanding pilot.

“It is so important that Western Australian public schools offer specialist programs such as aviation to provide students with real-world experience and pathways to their chosen careers.”
