In response to recent Commonwealth Government reforms of aged care, Council is excited to appoint mecwacare to provide core aged care services for new clients only from 1 December 2020 under a Partner Provider Model.

mecwacare is a local provider with an excellent reputation in this sector and an organisation we believe is best placed to provide a high level of service to clients.

Services included will be: domestic assistance; personal care; respite care and shopping assistance to new clients only.

Mornington Peninsula Shire’s current clients will continue receiving these services from the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s in-house team.

Meals on Wheels, Home Maintenance, Community Transport, Assessment and Positive Ageing will continue to be provided by the Mornington Peninsula Shire as usual.

Mornington Peninsula Shire CEO John Baker said: “The introduction of this excellent partner provider for new clients enables a gradual transition to the new aged care system outlined by the Commonwealth Government with minimal impact for current clients and staff.”

The aged care industry is in a three-year transition period where secure block funding to existing service providers is guaranteed until 2022, when it is expected this arrangement will discontinue, and the Commonwealth will introduce an open market aged care system where there will be a range of service providers available for clients to choose from.

The appointment of mecwacare follows a rigorous request for tender process and a massive community engagement exercise carried out earlier this year, which explored all options available to deliver certain aged and disability services to Peninsula residents.

Staff, volunteers and clients have been directly informed of this change.

Mr Baker said: “Council is absolutely focused on ensuring continuity and quality of care for clients throughout the Commonwealth Government’s national aged care reform transition period.”
