The Morrison Government will develop a range of best-practice professional resources for teachers to improve classroom environments so that students can perform at their best.
Acting Minister for Education and Youth Stuart Robert said the Government will provide $3.5 million to the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) to develop materials for teachers to better engage their students and achieve focused, positive and supportive classroom environments.
‘Every child deserves the opportunity to realise their potential at school,’ Minister Robert said.
‘Having safe, engaged and supportive classrooms are critical to achieving that.
‘Improving the environment in which students are taught is one of three key pillars the Government has identified that need attention to lift student outcomes, along with what and how students are taught.
‘AERO will provide advice and develop tools and resources to support school leaders, teachers and parents to create classrooms and other learning environments which are more conducive to learning.
‘This will include a series of podcasts involving experts, the development of online and face-to-face training materials, targeted training for schools, and written materials, case studies and frequently asked questions.
‘The focus of materials will be on classroom management, student engagement, safe and supportive classrooms for all, and the challenges and opportunities arising from returning to classrooms this year after disruptions caused by the pandemic.
‘We know improving the classroom environment is a big concern for teachers across Australia – and recent research indicates classrooms are becoming increasingly disrupted.
‘The Morrison Government wants to support teachers to create the best learning environment they can for students. That’s why we’re supporting the development of a pipeline of practical resources by education experts in this area’
AERO is expected to start releasing training materials later this year via its website www.edresearch.edu.au
