Rockhampton’s iconic Six Mile Raceway is set to attract the best riders from around Queensland for the inaugural MX King of Capricorn event taking place from 2-4 October.

Councillor for Communities Drew Wickerson said Rockhampton Regional Council is proud to support this event through the Community Assistance Program (CAP).

“We know that many motocross events around the country have been cancelled this year, including the MX Nationals, and that riders are looking for somewhere to compete, ” said Cr Wickerson.

“The MX King of Capricorn, hosted by the Rockhampton & District Motocross Club, will fill a gap left by many of these events.

“This is an elite competition held at one of the best venues in Australia that promises to offer a fantastic weekend for our Region and for the state’s motocross community.

“There is also $20,000 in prize money up for grabs, making it the biggest motocross event in the country this year in terms of prize money.

“It is fantastic to be able to support events like this through Council’s Community Assistance Program.

“If your organisation is looking to hold an upcoming event or start a project that will benefit our community, this is a great opportunity to remind you that round two of the CAP is open now, so get your applications in.”

Debbie Dark, Treasurer of the Rockhampton & District Motocross Club, said the event will bring the best of Queensland’s best.

“The MX King of Capricorn will offer 7 classes of competition for the junior ranks aging from riders 7-16 and an additional 7 classes for the senior riders,” said Ms Dark.

“We want to say a big thank you to Rockhampton Regional Council for supporting this event, as well as many industry related businesses including a few local ones who have come on board.

“This is set to be a great event for our Region, and the community support has been fantastic.

“This event has free spectator entry with canteen facilities available, so bring the kids and watch some of the best MX Riders in Queensland compete to be crowned ‘King of Capricorn’.”

This event will follow an industry COVID Safe Plan. Event attendees are asked to follow all COVID Safe instructions at the event to ensure the safety of those attending.
