If you’re a motorcycle rider or interested in motorcycles, then this is the weekend for you!
Breakfast Torque, Southern Sydney’s biggest motorcycling event, is back and is coming to Heathcote Oval this Sunday, 27 October 2019.
Sutherland Shire Council, the Motorcycle Council of NSW, Bayside Council, Georges River Council, Steven Walters Children’s Cancer Foundation, Sydney Performance Motorcycles, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance Service are proud to once again be holding the Breakfast Torque event as part of Motorcycle Awareness Month.
A highlight of the event is the simulated road scene to raise awareness of the blind spots for large vehicles. A semi-trailer surrounded by motorcycles will be set up and motorcyclists will be able to sit in the driver’s seat and see how difficult it can be to see other vehicles in blind spots.
Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce said the annual free community event is great for anyone interested in riding or motorcycles.
“The Breakfast Torque is a great event with a focus on motorcycle safety and is full of interesting demonstrations, safety information and great prizes to be won,” Mayor Pesce said.
“We want all motorcycle riders to arrive home safe after enjoying a ride and this event brings riders together where they can receive expert safety tips, browse new products and hear some valuable advice about what to do if they come across an accident.”
There will be stunt shows, a riding skills display as well as a simulated crash scene and response demonstration performed by a stunt rider. Also on offer will be a mini bike show by Sutherland PCYC Minibike Club and prizes drawn throughout the morning.
Thanks to the generous donations from local businesses, the motorcycle-related prizes valued at around $5000 include helmets, jackets, tyres, servicing, ride days, training and memberships.
Motorcycle Council of NSW Chairman Kevin ‘Trip’ Henry said he was looking forward to the event and pleased be involved in the Breakfast Torque.
“This is a great opportunity to celebrate motorcycling culture, while reminding riders about safety in a fun festival event,” Mr Henry said.
“The Breakfast Torque provides an important forum to remind riders that their safety should be a priority every time they ride and hopefully we can help reduce the number of riders who are injured on our roads.”
From 8am to 11am, around 1500 people are expected to attend the event that will be hosted by radio presenter Chris Smith. There will also be live music, coffee vans and free breakfast for all riders.
