A motorcyclist has been charged with multiple traffic offences after allegedly reaching speeds of up to 200km/h in Sydney’s south-west overnight.
About 11pm (Friday 19 February 2021), officers from Bankstown Police Area Command, assisted by Traffic and Highway Patrol, were patrolling Merrylands, when a BMW S1000RR motorcycle was seen travelling south on Woodville Road at high speed.
Police conducted a U-turn and the motorcycle accelerated away at speeds estimated between 150-200km/h in a 70km/h zone.
The motorcycle was seen a short time later on Woodville Road, Villawood, and officers from Georges River Highway Patrol attempted to stop the bike; however, it continued south at an estimated speed of 200km/h in a 60km/h zone.
The motorcycle was monitored by PolAir through the suburbs of Bass Hill, Chester Hill, and Sefton before it was seen to stop outside a house in Bulwarra Road.
Police attended and the rider, a 28-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station. The motorcycle was seized for forensic examination.
He was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45km/h – estimated, and drive when visiting privileges withdrawn.
The Chester Hill man was granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday 11 March 2021.
