Motorcyclist charged over 190km/h detection in Eastern Suburbs

A motorcyclist has been charged with drug and speeding offences after being detected allegedly riding at 190km/h in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

About 4.20pm on Sunday (16 May 2021), officers attached to Surry Hills Highway Patrol saw a Ducati motorcycle eastbound along Oxford Street, Paddington.

Police checked the rider’s speed which showed the rider travelling at an alleged speed of 190km/h in the 80km/h zone.

The rider – a 32-year-old man from Haymarket – was stopped on Syd Enfield Drive, Bondi Junction.

It will be further alleged that the rider tested positive to a roadside drug test.

The man was arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he underwent a secondary oral fluid sample that again returned a positive result. This sample is to undergo further analysis before any action is taken in relation to this.

Officers issued the man a Court Attendance Notice for exceed speed (more than 45 km/h), and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.

He is due to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 15 July 2021.

The man’s licence was suspended and his number plates confiscated for three months.
