Works are progressing on a number of important flood mitigation upgrades in Moulamein, helping strengthen the town’s resilience and protect key community infrastructure.
What’s been completed?
Stormwater outlet upgrades have been completed, including new backflow prevention infrastructure to help stop river floodwaters entering the stormwater network.
What’s underway?
Construction of a new ring levee around the Moulamein Water Treatment Plant has now commenced. The levee will help protect the town’s drinking water supply during future flood events.
Works are expected to continue over the coming months, weather permitting. Some construction-related disruptions, such as traffic management, may occur, but these will be managed to minimise inconvenience.
Importantly, all works are being undertaken on Council land, road reserves or around the treatment plant – no private property will be affected.
What’s still to come?
A permanent levee will be installed between the lake and Tchelery Road, replacing the temporary levee installed in the last flood and eliminating the need for extensive resources for temporary levees in this area during future flood events.
