The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has shown its support for the road safety campaign, ‘move over, slow down’ by launching billboards at the QPS Academy, Oxley.
‘Move over, slow down’ is a targeted social media and outdoor road safety campaign reminding drivers to behave safely when passing roadside emergency responders and their vehicles.
Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating from Road Policing Command (RPC) was joined by RPC officers and representatives from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) and RACQ to launch the ‘move over, slow down’ billboards at Oxley.
Assistant Commissioner Keating said all emergency response vehicles using lights and sirens are responding to an emergency.
“The ‘move over, slow down’ campaign reminds motorists to drive safely, especially when passing emergency services vehicles,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.
“You could save a strangers life.”

Adrian Harrison from the Department of Transport and Main Roads said the ‘move over, slow down’ content reinforced the importance of moving over and slowing down for emergency and roadside responders.
“This campaign also clarifies confusion of what to do in the event you see an emergency vehicle appropriating,” Mr Harrison said.
Head of Technical and Safety Policy Steve Spalding from RACQ said the ‘move over, slow down’ campaign is important for the safety of all Queensland motorists and those assisting them at the roadside.
“When you see an emergency services or incident response vehicles at the roadside, we ask that you move over and slow down to give them a safe working space,” Mr Spalding said.
This month it was confirmed that the digital billboards on the Pacific Motorway will continue to be displayed.
Police want to remind motorists when you see emergency responders, to move over when it is safe to do so and slow down to protect those that protect you.
