Movies under the stars in Mordialloc

Enjoy movies under the stars at Kingston’s pop-up beachside cinema experience coming soon to Mordialloc over the March long weekend.

Peter Scullin Reserve in Mordialloc is set to come alive for Mordi Movies, held over five days from March 10 to 14. It will feature an exciting program of family-friendly films, complete with picnics, popcorn and local performers. Throw in kids’ activities, food trucks, the Candy Bar and the Kingston Arts Bar, and fun is certainly on the cards.

Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said Mordi Movies will be a great opportunity to reconnect as a community.

“We’ve all missed being out and about and catching up with friends and family over the past couple of years, and Mordi Movies provides the perfect opportunity to do just that,” Cr Staikos said.

“There’s nothing quite like watching a film under the stars and we’re incredibly proud to be offering a program full of classic films and family favourites including Jurassic Park, Happy Feet, The Wizard of Oz, Romeo and Juliet and more. Plus, we will be kicking off Mordi Movies by partnering with the Melbourne Queer Film Festival on opening night with Hairspray.”

Cr Staikos said that Council had taken the difficult decision last year during ongoing uncertainty around COVID-19 restrictions and public safety, to put the much-loved Mordi Fest on hold for the year.

“We’re pleased to be able to present MordiMovies as an alternative community celebration and look forward to the return of MordiFest in the future.”
