Police issued 36 infringement notices and laid charges for a range of offences following a multi-agency rural crime operation in the state’s south earlier this month.
Operation Brushwood is an ongoing proactive operation, targeted rural-related offences in the South West Rural Crime Prevention Team zone.
Between Thursday 13 August 2026 and Monday 17 August 2026, led by officers attached by Rural Crime Prevention Team with assistance from National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Following results were achieved
- 3 Charges Laid, (Traffic, outstanding warrant and firearm offences).
- 36 infringement notices issued (under the Feral Animal Control Act, Enclosed Lands Protection Act, Biosecurity Act, National Parks and Wildlife Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (POCTA)
- 3 Firearms seized
- 5 non-prescribed electrical taser collars were seized.
Officers also conducted safe storage inspections, vehicle and person searches, compliance inspections at wool, hide and skin dealers, livestock inspections, and inspections under the Protection of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Notable Incident;
About 12.15am on Saturday 15 August 2026, officers sighted a utility towing a trailer of firewood leaving Murray Valley National Park near Barmah Road, Moama. Officers will allege the trailer had no registration plates or lights. Officers stopped the vehicle on the Deniliquin Road and spoke to the driver – a 45-year-old man. Further checks revealed the driver allegedly had outstanding warrants. He was arrested and taken to Moama Police Station. He was charged with Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period and an outstanding warrant for driving offences. He was granted conditional bail to appear in Moama Local Court on Thursday 17 September 2026.
