Multi-agency search for missing fisherman – South Coast

A multi-agency search operation is continuing for a man missing in water on the far south coast.

About 3.15pm yesterday (Saturday 17 June 2023), emergency services were called to Lennards Island, near Merimbula, following reports a 64-year-old spear fisherman had failed to return to shore after entering the water.

Officers attached to Marine Area Command coordinated a search of the area yesterday, assisted by South Coast Police District, NSW Ambulance, Marine Rescue, and NSW Surf Live Saving commenced a search of the area.

The search was suspended about 5.30pm yesterday due to poor light; however, resumed about 8am today (Sunday 18 June 2023) around Lennards Island and in water surrounding the Beowa National Park.

NSW SES is assisting today’s search.
