Multiple offences at Maryborough

A 22-year-old Torquay man has been charged following the pursuit of an alleged stolen vehicle in Maryborough this morning (Monday May 2).

It will be alleged that at approximately 5.45am the man was involved in an altercation at a Jupiter Street address, during which shots were fired.

No one was physically injured.

It is alleged the man then left the scene in a green Mitsubishi Verada which had been stolen from a Maryborough Hervey Bay Road service station at approximately 11.30am yesterday (Monday May 1).

Maryborough police attempted to intercept the vehicle however it failed to stop.

At this time, police commenced a low-speed pursuit in the Maryborough area, before the man abandoned the vehicle on Lamington Bridge.

It is alleged the 22-year-old then entered the Mary River, before he was taken into custody.

A firearm was also seized.

The man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, threatening violence (discharge firearm), possess shortened firearms, unlawful possession of weapons, evading police, driving without a licence, dangerous operation of a vehicle and obstruct police.

His bail has been refused and he is expected to appear before Maryborough Magistrates Court tomorrow (Tuesday May 3).
