Murder charge laid following alleged assault in Ashfield – Strike Force Ashlans

A man has faced an extra charge after another man has died in hospital following an alleged assault in Sydney’s inner-west earlier this month.

On Tuesday 3 March 2026, officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command established Strike Force Ashlans and commenced an investigation after a 54-year-old man with serious injuries was found on Holden Street, near Liverpool Road, Ashfield.

Following inquiries, Burwood Police arrested and charged a 38-year-old man over the alleged incident. He remains before the court.

The 54-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to a hospital in a critical condition however, on Wednesday 4 March 2026, police were notified that he had died in hospital.

Following further inquiries, today (Wednesday 18 March 2026), the 38-year-old was charged with murder.

He is due to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 29 April 2026.
