Murphy And Sutherland Return For Tasmania Clash

Victoria has selected its squad for the second round of the Sheffield Shield against Tasmania at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, beginning on Monday, October 19.

Chris Rogers’ side will be bolstered by the returns of Todd Murphy and Will Sutherland following Australia A duties, adding international experience to Victoria’s bowling attack.

Liam Blackford and Harry Hoekstra have retained their places after impressive Sheffield Shield debuts against South Australia last week, with both young players looking to build on their first appearances in Victorian colours.

Sam Elliott is unavailable with a hand injury, while Doug Warren returns to Premier cricket.

Victoria’s Head of Male Cricket, Wade Seccombe, said the returning pair would provide a valuable boost for the interstate challenge.

“It’s great to welcome Will and Todd back into the group following their Australia A commitments,” Seccombe said.

“They bring quality and experience with both bat and ball, and having them available gives us some strong options heading into this match.

“We were really pleased with how Liam and Harry handled their debuts last week. They earned their opportunities, and it’s pleasing to see them retain their places and build on that experience.

“Tasmania at Bellerive is always a good challenge. We’ll need to adapt to the conditions, stay disciplined and put together consistent periods of cricket across the four days.”
