Mildura Rural City Council has continued its progress to ‘electrify the Mallee Track’ and attract more EV tourists to the region following installation of a new public electric vehicle fast charging station at Murrayville.
Councillor for Environment and Sustainability Jason Modica said the fast charger was conveniently located at Pioneer Park in Gray Street.
“The installation of yet another public fast charger in our region continues to position the Mildura Local Government area as one of the most EV-friendly communities in Australia,” Cr Modica said.
“This is a powerful way for us to attract more EV tourists and the economic benefits that flow from that in terms of spending in local businesses, both in the broader region and in Murrayville.
“I’m proud of the role Council was able to play in making this a reality by supporting Evie Networks’ successful funding application through the Victorian Government’s Destination Charging Across Victoria Program.
Murrayville and District Liaison Committee President Carly Heintze welcomed the addition of the faster charger in the township.
“This is another valuable asset for our town as it will help encourage more travellers to stop in Murrayville on their way through the region,” Ms Heintze said.
“This will provide opportunities for these visitors to shop in our local businesses as well as enjoy Pioneer Park close by.”
Like all Evie Networks’ public fast chargers, the Murrayville facility is powered by 100% renewable energy. Cost to use the charger is 58c per kilowatt hour.
Cr Modica said the Murrayville charger is the only one of its kind in the region to support electric vehicles towing due to parking bays at the charging station being in parallel, meaning drivers don’t have to unhitch their trailer or caravan to charge their vehicle.
“This will be a major advantage for EV drivers travelling between Victoria and South Australia, closing the previously large charging gap between Ouyen and Tailem Bend, which was about 280 kilometres,” he said.
Evie Networks Chief Executive Officer Chris Mills said the new public fast charger at Murrayville demonstrated Evie’s ongoing push to improve access to charging infrastructure.
“Evie is committed to providing accessible charging infrastructure nationally, particularly across Regional Victoria to help support electric vehicle adoption into the future,” Mr Mills said.
