Murrayville’s new library has arrived at Mildura

The new Murrayville Library has reached a major milestone with the library building now completed and in position in Pioneer Park.

The library building has been constructed off-site locally in Sunraysia and was transported to its new home in Murrayville last week.

Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said it was a fantastic milestone for the Murrayville community as it represented the first time residents have had access to a permanent library in their town.

“Services including power and water have already been connected among a host of works to establish the new building,” Cr Modica said.

“Once these works are completed our library services will team start fitting out the building.”

A specific opening date will be announced in coming weeks, which will be dependent on COVID-19 restrictions.

The new library will feature a significant increase in services compared to the mobile library visits it replaces. They include:

  • borrowing of library materials such as books, audio books, DVDs, music CDs and magazines
  • wireless internet access
  • children and adult programs
  • 24/7 access

Once established, the new library will be open on Tuesdays from 1pm to 5pm and Thursdays from 9am to 1pm.

Cr Modica said the new library was part of Council’s New Libraries Branching Out Model, which replaces the mobile library service, and is aimed at increasing and improving access to library services in our region’s outlying areas.

“This new library model represents the biggest improvement to library services for communities along the Mallee Track and the Millewa in more than a decade,” he said.

“For Murrayville residents, their new library will boast a much broader range of services and items, more space, better amenities, as well as 24/7 access.”
