Three emerging musicians will take their careers to new heights with a program that connects them with established artists in the music industry to develop their talents.
Minister for the Arts Don Harwin said the 2021 Generations Fellowship, valued at $100,000 through cash and in-kind assistance, will support Indira Elias, Joseph Douglas and Dyan Taiare to carry out six months of professional development.
The successful Fellows receive $25,000 each in financial support, studio space at the Powerhouse Museum (Ultimo) or Museums Discovery Centre (Castle Hill), with further in-kind support, such as, industry mentoring and networking facilitated by Astral People also provided throughout each residency. Support will also be provided for costs associated with participating in the program, including travel and equipment.
“The NSW Government is committed to developing the vibrant local contemporary music industry and nurturing the future generation of NSW musicians. The Generations Fellowship encourages self-determination and drives creativity that will contribute to a strong and ambitious industry today and far into the future,” Mr Harwin said.
Powerhouse Chief Executive Lisa Havilah said the success of the inaugural Generations Fellowship convinced the Powerhouse to continue to invest in the future of emerging musicians and contemporary music in NSW.
“We look forward to collaborating once again with Create NSW and Astral People to work with the 2021 Fellows to support them as they develop as artists within the music industry,” Ms Havilah said.
Astral People co-founder and director Vichara Edirisinghe said the partnership will once again support the successful NSW fellows to further their career.
“We’re proud to once again team up with Create NSW and the Powerhouse Museum to deliver the Generations Fellowship, which will support artist development across the music industry in NSW. The 2020 Fellowship was an incredible experience and we look forward to bringing our expertise and mentorship, to help grow the careers of the three extremely talented hand-picked local artists for 2021”, Mr Edirisinghe said
The Generations Fellowship program is made possible through funding from Create NSW and the Powerhouse Museum and boosted by support from Astral People.
