NAIDOC Week invites all Australians to acknowledge our history that dates back thousands of generations, embrace our culture, and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme is Get up! Stand up! Show up! A call on people to use their voices to continue to fight for change.

Kiama Council is honoured to contribute to the celebrations by hosting a local Aboriginal Art Exhibition at the Old Fire Station Gallery.

The launch is this Friday 8 July at 6.00pm with a Welcome to Country, didgeridoo performance, guest speaker, catering, and an opportunity to purchase work by local artists.

Kiama Library is celebrating NAIDOC Week throughout July by celebrating the Wodi Wodi people, the traditional custodians of the land on which we live. Local kids and teens are invited to enter into the Wodi Wodi All Around Competitions to win great prizes. To participate in the competition visit Wodi Wodi All Around competition Kiama Library (nsw.gov.au)

We are also participating in the Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards taking place on Saturday 30 July from 5.30pm- 10.30pm at the Fraternity Club, Fairy Meadow.

These awards are an opportunity to celebrate the contribution and achievements of Aboriginal communities in Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven local government areas.
