NAIDOC Week Celebrations

Port Macquarie-Hastings

Australians across the country will unite from 6 to 13 July 2025 to celebrate NAIDOC Week — a time to honour the history, cultures, achievements, and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

“From the strength and resilience of our ancestors we lift our young ones to lead the way. In deep respect we celebrate our culture that reaches into the past and propels us forward. NAIDOC 2025 commemorating 50 years of shared stories and looking forward to the stories still to be told,” Dr Aunty Rhonda Radley said.

In the Port Macquarie Hastings region, a vibrant and inclusive program of events will highlight and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, heritage, and community spirit.

The week-long celebration kicked off with a Flag Raising Ceremony at Town Green on Monday 7 July, followed by a morning tea, film screening, Elders Bingo, dedicated men’s and women’s events, a community sports day, cultural showcases, library story time, and arts and crafts sessions.

The highlight of the week will be the NAIDOC Family Fun Day at Westport Park on Thursday 10 July 2025. This free, family-friendly event will offer something for everyone — including cultural dance and music performances, didgeridoo playing, weaving workshops, art displays, bush tucker tastings, and traditional games.

Visitors can also enjoy inflatable rides, a petting zoo, reptiles, pony rides, food and coffee stalls, and information from a wide range of community service providers — all coming together in celebration of culture, community, and connection.

Mayor Adam Roberts encouraged all residents to take part in the celebrations.

“NAIDOC Week is a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together — to honour Aboriginal culture, share in our collective history, and celebrate the richness of our diverse community. Council is pleased to sponsor NAIDOC Week events through our Community Grants Program,” Mayor Roberts said.
