Nambour Hospital $86 million redevelopment on track

Nambour General Hospital’s $86 million redevelopment is on track to meet its completion date as the hospital prepares to start major construction.

Minister for Health Steven Miles said the redevelopment was progressing well including early works and the start of service relocations.

“The Nambour Hospital redevelopment will include refurbishing and expanding a significant portion of the hospital including expanding the Emergency Department to 31 beds and treatment spaces,” Mr Miles said.

“The biggest upgrade is to the Mental Health Inpatient Unit which will expand to 44 beds.

“A new Same Day Rehabilitation Unit will be built with 15 chairs and many units will be upgraded, relocated or replaced including Central Sterilising, Renal, Oncology, Acute and Restorative Care, Surgical Inpatient and Orthopaedic.”

“This is a win for the local community and demonstrates our government’s commitment to enhancing frontline services to the region.

Mr Miles said the Design Development stage is nearing completion, with the team now working through the design of the new courtyard that will be created with consumer input.

“Refreshing of existing wards is also occurring to allow certain services to move to a temporary location and continue providing important health care services to the community during construction.

“The construction program has been designed to ensure that the Nambour General Hospital remains fully operational throughout the construction period.”

Mr Miles said the Palaszczuk Government is committed to providing quality health services on the Sunshine Coast.

“We are committed to providing word-class healthcare to all Queenslanders, and a record $1.2 billion is being invested in healthcare on the Sunshine Coast, which includes the Nambour General Hospital redevelopment, as part of the 2019/20 state budget,” he said.

Mr Miles said the community’s input into the redevelopment was a high priority.

“Consultation with the community has been occurring, and will continue to occur, throughout the project,” he said.

“Community members have so far provided valuable information to the design development including contributions toward the layout and design; ensuring our patients, families and visitors can easily find their way.

“Two community forums have already been held, with the next being scheduled for 23 July 2019 at the Nambour RSL.”

The redevelopment is due to be completed by end 2022.
